Prior to launch at<\/span> Porcupine Bay<\/a>, spoke with unhappy fishers putting out who complained of lack of fish and weather conditions that included rain and hail. \u00a0Weather report for weekend is “sunny”. \u00a0Noted that the boat trailer tires were essentially flat, that lug nuts are\u00a0different then standard and, of course, no spare. \u00a0Launch under sunny conditions and head to<\/span> Detilion CG<\/a>. \u00a0CG picnic table has water soaked copy of old Playboy magazine. \u00a0Had forgotten past appreciation of the articles. \u00a0Along the south shore finally identify my first Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) after all these years. \u00a0Arrive CG and set up camp. \u00a0Water still very low. \u00a0With increasing gray skies attempt trolling along this shore and catch several<\/span> Largemouth Bass<\/a> and two very small but edible<\/span>\u00a0Walleye<\/a>. \u00a0Two of the bass are sizable. \u00a0Increasing rumbling from above drives me to shore and shelter where and brief but impressive squall armed with electricity provides a short wet light show. \u00a0Coyotes and owls advise options concerning trailer tires while slipping into sleep. \u00a0Era asleep under Hennessy hammock.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n

Morning under gray skies with breakfast of coffee and oranges. \u00a0First fishing bring more bass, bunch of small walleye and one “keeper” \u00a0which becomes the story for the day.\u00a0 Have officially caught fishes today in Porcupine Bay.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n

As evening approaches, dinner with fresh fried walleye, another boat arrives, and two\u00a0set up camp nearby.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n

Bonus Flashback Story<\/span>: \u00a0Recall years ago camping same CG and similarly having finished meal of fresh walleye, basking in the evening quiet on the river when a small pontoon\/houseboat appears from downriver bend blasting in \u00a0continuous repetition the song Bobby Ferrins<\/span>\u00a0“Don’t Worry, Be Happy”<\/a> from mounted speakers. \u00a0Disruptive cacophony contradicts the music of worry and happy.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n

This time the increasing sound is not popmusic but another blast from nature in the form of a severe thunderstorm. \u00a0Lightning to the ground in orange flashes leaving the scent of ozone O3, downpour and almost forcing retreat to outhouse. \u00a030 minutes of tumult (reducing Era to shaking) finally breaks briefly to a double rainbow. \u00a0With the temperature down about 20 degrees, a scramble to re gear into warmer drier attire. \u00a0Decide to break camp in morning, fish along north shore, put out and deal with tires. \u00a0Angst tires.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n

Misty morning with launch across to old cemetery located on<\/span> Spokane Reservation<\/a>. \u00a0Sighted river otter floating on back eating fish! \u00a0Several more small bass and walleye not worth knifing.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n

Arrive Porcupine Bay to find that tires are low but not flat. \u00a0After boat is out, meet and talk with NPS ranger and NPS volunteer in parking lot. \u00a0Volunteer provides a small hand operated pump that allows the tires to be filled enough to assuade angst. “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” finally.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n

Half way to Davenport, phone goes back onto grid and provides several warning texts concerning “Severe Weather Alert” – “Severe Thunderstorms” which is quite different from “sunny” forecast.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n
