“Revival”
A chroma azure banner hangs still, outside the assembly building, beckoning to believers and clearly visible in the descending circles from above. A large cross cast a shadow across a groomed grass yard of the chosen landing zone.
In an enclosed vestibule a resuscitation effort reveals a flat effect despite the initial ALS. Many of the advanced procedures have been completed as well as the 2nd round of ALS meds.
Nearby a concerned family waits, whispering, praying with heads bowed. Through the closed glass doors, a ceremony continues, the congregation attention rapt to the sermonizing. The algorithm has reached the point where “consider” takes over and protocol allows, with consulted medical control, termination of resuscitation but “considering” surrounding circumstances seems sacrilegious. The right path is the decision to transport and, propagating a hypocrisy of medicine, air transport to the nearest ED is recommended. The family is directed to the nearest destination emergency room. The ascending flight brings the sign into sight. Briefly the written words proclaiming “Revival Today”, wave in the rotors wash, Turning, into the light, the sun reflects off the plexiglas and, in a sudden bright burst, the banner and the cross are gone.
